Leia & George brought together a huge number of family and friends for their Seaside wedding at Bayonet Black Horse, completely filling the golf course’s large reception room. Yet somehow, even with all those people, they managed to keep the mood casual, intimate and lighthearted, like a regular weekend get-together … except with a marriage thrown in.

Sometimes you go on a photo shoot and the weather cooperates and you feel lucky. Other times it goes beyond that, and the weather is so unexpectedly phenomenal that you can’t even believe your luck.
The last Friday in August of 2012 was like that. After being foggy all day, the clouds parted and blue skies emerged just before we started Sarah & Jeff’s engagement session at Lover’s Point in Monterey. Then the weather continued to improve through the day.

I love running around San Francisco taking pictures. And I love shooting engagement sessions. When you combine the two and add in a pair of close personal friends, well, that’s hard to beat.
You ever meet someone and immediately feel comfortable with them, like you’re already friends? That’s how it felt when I met Kelly, which is remarkable, since we met at a wedding fair. We hit it off as soon as she walked up to my booth, which is saying something, because at a bridal fair, you meet lots of people, many of whom are overwhelmed, or in a rush, and it’s hard to make a connection.
Later, I met David, and it felt the same way. I knew that working with them during their Seaside wedding at Bayonet Black Horse would feel like spending a day with friends.
A couple weeks before Renae & George’s engagement session, George called to run a crazy idea by me: What if we loaded the large wooden bench that he proposed on into the back of his truck and drove it at night to the First Street bridge, so they could sit on it for a picture with the Los Angeles skyline behind them?
“I love this idea,” I said.
