Rosiella & Jeffrey’s downtown San Jose wedding

Rosiella & Jeffrey's downtown San Jose wedding

Although I live in downtown San Jose, most of the weddings I photograph are elsewhere: Monterey, San Francisco, Napa, etc. However, I suspect that after engaged couples get a look at the incredible event that Rosiella & Jeffrey put together, they’ll seriously consider having a downtown San Jose wedding.

With a ceremony at St. Joseph Cathedral and a reception at Hotel De Anza, the settings for the wedding day were both ornate and historic downtown San Jose landmarks. We also were able to visit many other notable San Jose locations — like the Tech, the Museum of Art, Cesar Chavez Park and the SAP Center — and we barely had to walk because Rosiella & Jeffrey had the ingenious idea of hiring pedicabs!

Seriously, this was the best thing ever. The entire wedding party had pedicabs, with an extra for me and videographer Allen of Ivory Sky. Steven Barkley of Eco City Cycles led his crew of pedicab drivers efficiently and professionally and made the whole thing super fun. We went all over downtown and had a great time. I unreservedly recommend pedicabs for every downtown San Jose wedding.

Back at the reception, tables were adorned with some seriously unique DIY decorations, including laser-cut wooden table markers made by the groom himself. I’m always impressed by the creativity my clients bring to their weddings, but it’s fair to say that Jeffrey went above and beyond. He made the groomsmen’s boutonnieres, sewed their bow ties, made the bridesmaids’ jewelry, the escort cards, and many other details. When we first met to talk about their wedding, Jeffrey said he had a TechShop membership and was creating many of the wedding decorations himself. I would say that membership was put to good use.

Bringing all of this awesomeness together was Aileen of Prestigious Planning, who did a great job while also being one of the maids of honor. She deftly handled everything up to the wedding day, then had her capable assistants take the lead. Really excellent job by her and her crew.

So many more things I should mention about this wedding — going on the roof of the De Anza, the porrons, the awesome dance party … I’m super excited about this wedding and everything that I and my second shooter Conner captured. See my favorite images in the gallery below.
