There was a moment near the end of Christine & Chris’ San Juan Bautista wedding reception (you can see it at the top of this blog post, actually) when the newlyweds were lost in a loving embrace in the middle of a dance floor full of guests getting down, seemingly detached from their immediate surroundings, off in their own world of bliss. It was a beautiful little moment, and evidence to me of how much fun the couple had on their big day.
And a big day it was. We started with photos at San Juan Oaks Golf Club (the reception site) in San Juan Bautista, went to Morgan Hill for the ceremony at St. Catherine’s Parish, took family photos after the ceremony, and went back to San Juan Bautista for the reception, stopping along the way for some photos by a beautiful oak tree.
Christine was a contentious planner of her wedding, and it showed in all the details. The reception hall was filled with custom decorations, photos and other personalized touches. The couple opted for a self-portrait station, and it was a big hit, especially since Christine provided lots of fun props. We did an engagement session a few months before the wedding, and the couple used the photos in a guestbook, which got filled with well-wishes from the many guests.
In addition to dancing, the reception provided a lot of laughs. The maid of honor’s speech ranks among the funniest I’ve heard, and a groomsman deadpanned the wolfpack speech from The Hangover, complete with crumpled up notes pulled from a pants pocket. (While most guests were in stitches, I could hear an older couple saying to each other, ‘I don’t know, I think it’s from a movie.’)
A selection of my favorite photos from the day is below.
